Background & History

The idea to set up the Trust was conceived by Mohiv Uddin in early June 2011 and the thought behind the development of the Trust has been to support and advance education in Greater Sylhet as a whole. Many areas of Greater Sylhet to date have made good progress in supporting and developing education through funding from their kith and kin living abroad. However, access to education still remains poor in many parts of Sylhet, particularly those areas which do not have a large number of
people living abroad. This vision was shared with Jamal Uddin, Mayen Uddin (Ansar), and Mohammed Ashikur Rahman. Together they developed the idea further and looked into formalizing the Trust.

Over the next 12 months a lot of hard work gone on its development before deciding to hold a public consultation meeting to formalize the Trust. The consultation meeting took place in June 2012, where the idea was presented. A number of individuals showed a keen interest in getting involved, who are
now part of the Trustee Board.

BSET Structure and Governance

BSET has 31 Trustees who make up the Executive Board of Trustees. They are legally responsible for all of BSET’s affairs and are ultimately responsible for the performance of the organisation and the quality of service it offers clients and beneficiaries.

The structure of BSET has been designed to encourage grass root engagement and representation within the Trust. The Trustee are also has an Advisory Board, which will advise the Trust on key issues surrounding educational needs.
